Objectives of dental hygiene

The goal of seeing a dental hygienist is to maintain oral health.

Some patients clean their mouths regularly and very carefully, but the technique may not always be correct. If teeth are not cleaned properly or sufficiently, plaque builds up. Over time, this leads to the formation of tartar, which irritates its surroundings and causes gingivitis or even periodontitis (inflammatory disease of the hanging apparatus of the tooth). These factors can lead to tooth loss.

The long-term presence of plaque and bacteria also causes tooth decay. These phenomena can be prevented by regular visits to the dentist and dental hygienist.
